About Alex Scofi aka The Fanzine Writer

Alex Scofi is also a special education teacher, avid gardener, storyteller, and a huge proponent of therapy. Therapy has been a huge part of Alex's life. After his father's death at four, Alex spent many years in art therapy. After a break, Alex decided during a period of high school depression that he wanted to go back to therapy. Fifteen years later he still goes every week. Alex's relationship with therapy is one of the reasons that dealing with underlying trauma is such a big component of his writing.

Another big component of Alex's writing is spirituality. His mother, although Jewish, wanted to raise Alex in a religious way that would allow him to also experience his father's Christian upbringing. She decided that raising him in a Unitarian Universalist congregation would be the best way to do this. This meant that growing up, Alex's family would often have their Chanakuh menorah next to the Christmas tree.

Alex Scofi has a self published book Pain, Love, and Politics and edits the newsletter The Fanzine Newsletter.
